Frontier Adventure Racing Inc.,
Canada's premier adventure racing company, announced today that
Tremblant, the number one ski resort in North America, will host the
3rd Raid the North race of the 2001 season. Located 150km northwest
of Montreal, Tremblant is situated next to Mont-Tremblant Provincial
Park. Scheduled for July 7-8, this 36-hour, non-stop race will take
teams of four through a 150km course of canoeing, trekking, mountain
biking and rappelling.
"We are very excited to be working with such a world-class resort.
Tremblant offers the best of both worlds, a spectacular wilderness
park, and a village with all the amenities an event such as this
requires," said David Zietsma, president of Frontier Adventure Racing
Inc. "With over 25,000 visitors every weekend, Tremblant is also well
known for staging exciting festival activities in the village, so we are
expecting quite a weekend for everyone involved."
Raid the North - Tremblant will be one of five, 36-hour races across
Canada that serve as qualifiers for the Raid the North national
championship race at the end of the season. The top-5 finishing teams
will earn a spot in the national championship race, while the winners
will receive free entry to that race, plus $1,500 CDN cash. Raid the
North – Tremblant sold out in the first few minutes of registration,
totalling 50 teams of four, from across Canada and the US.
"Tremblant is very proud to host this year's Raid the North Quebec race.
Being so close to Mont-Tremblant Provincial Park, Tremblant has all the
elements required to host an adventure race, including an abundance of
rivers, lakes and mountains," said Christian Asselin, public relations
and communications coordinator for Tremblant.
Frontier Adventure Racing will also be adding a new feature to their
race series this year, a separate three- to six-hour adventure
challenge to be run over the same weekend as the 36-hour event. Designed
to be a non-competitive way to enjoy adventure sports, this event will
be targeted at people in the Mont-Tremblant area and surrounding
communities.
"Our goal is to make adventure sports accessible to everyone," said
Zietsma. "By hosting an adventure challenge we hope to make Raid the
North more of a community event where participants will be able to
experience first hand some of the disciplines involved in the longer,
more challenging adventure races."
Frontier Adventure Racing will also be looking for a number of local
volunteers to assist in the management of this event. More than 70
volunteers will be needed in total for an event of this magnitude. And
although, many volunteers travel from out of town to participate,
organizers prefer to work with local volunteers who are familiar with
the area. For more information about volunteering, please contact
