Austrian Renate Goetschl narrowly won today's Super-G on the Patscherkofel course at Innsbruck in a time of 1:26.18. The star-studded podium included France's Carole Monillet, who finished just .03 seconds behind, and Austrias' Alexandra Meissnitzer in third with a time of 1:26.54.
The win, the 26th of Goetschl's splendid career and third this season, pushed her into second place in the discipline standings, just 39 points behind Montillet. Another Super-G is scheduled for Sunday.
Austria's Michaela Dorfmeister was fourth, and Germany's Hilde Gerg, fresh off her announcement that she will not retire as expected at the end of this season, finished fifth.
The U.S. team was led by Jonna Mendes, who finished 8th in a time of 1:26.89. Kirsten Clark, hoping for a strong downhill tomorrow as she pushes for the top spot in that discipline, finished 20th. Caroline Lalive was 21st, Libby Ludlow 26th, Julia Mancuso 34th and Lindsey Kildow 43rd for the Americans.
Tomorrow's Downhill will be followed by a second Super-G on Sunday, the final speed events before the season-ending championships at Lillehammer.
