Ivica Kostelic completed an historic day, winning the slalom at Kranjska Gora shortly after his sister Janica won the women's slalom at Bormio. It is the first time in World Cup history that a brother and sister have won races on the same day.
Kostelic's winning time was 1:44.71, .27 ahead of Rainer Schoenfelder of Austria. France's Jean-Pierre Vidal finished 3rd with a time of 1:45.03. It fourth career Cup victory for the 23 year-old Kostelic, who leads the points chase in the slalom specialty.
U.S. star and overall points leader Bode Miller had a disappointing day, straddling a gate and going out on the first run. Eric Schlopy also did not finish the first run, leaving only Tom Rothrock to gain points for the U.S. team. Rothrock finished 12 in a time of 1:46.81.
The men are next scheduled to race a GS tomorrow at Hinterstoder, Austria. Weather has wreaked havoc with the Cup schedule this season, with several cancellations and reschedulings.
