After sharing the scene at
Val d'Isere, France with the men last weekend, the women have moved on to Lenzerheide, Switzerland for three races, a downhill on Saturday, and both Slalom and Combined on Sunday.
Last week, the U.S. women's team had a moderately strong performance with four racers in the top 30 for the Giant Slalom, and four in the top 20 for Friday's Super-G. Kirsten Clark continued her strong run with a sixth-place finish in the Super-G. Clark stands 5th overall in the SG points race.
France's Carole Montillet made it to the winner's spot on the podium for the second time this season in the Super-G, while Italy's Karen Putzer notched the win in the GS. Montillet won the last women's downhill in Lake Louise. Germany's Hilde Gerg, who won the season-opening downhill at Lake Louise, is returning from a minor injury and finished 12th in today's training.
In Thursday's training run, Jonna Mendes had the best U.S. performance, coming in 14th. Austria's Michaela Dorfmeister led the field with a scorching 1:43.78, well more than a second better than any other competitor.
Other U.S. team members places included Kirsten Clark (21st), Caroline Lalive (22nd), Kathleen Monahan (43rd), Alison Powers (56th) and Julia Mancuso (70th).
