Paerson Wins Lienz Slalom
Lienz, Austria — December 28, 2003

World Cup leader Anja Paerson of Sweden posted the fastest second run Sunday to overtake first-run leader Nicole Hosp of Austria and win a World Cup slalom by .34. Resi Stiegler (Jackson Hole, WY) was the lone American to finish the race, coming in 13th as Kristina Koznick (Eagan, MN) and Sarah Schleper (Vail, CO) failed to finish their second run.

Paerson, second in the first run, boosted her points lead by winning in 1:48.97 for the 15th victory of her career, her third this season. Hosp, 20 and bidding for her third straight victory (after wins in a slalom in Madonna di Campiglio, Italy, and Saturday's GS in Lienz), was second at 1:49.31 to edge Germany's Monika Bergmann-Schmuderer by .01.

Stiegler, 18th in the first run had a two-run time of 1:51.45 in the mid-30s temperature. Koznick was sixth in the first run and Schleper 12th.

The women head next to Megeve, France, for a super G and slalom Jan. 4-5.
