Paerson Continues Winning Streak at Maribor
Maribor, Slovenia — January 25, 2004

World Cup leader Anja Paerson of Sweden took the first run lead Sunday and skied to her seventh victory of the season, her fifth in slalom, with a time of 1:38.08. Marlies Schild of Austria was second in 1:39.32 while Kristina Koznick (Eagan, MN), the lone American to make the final run, finished 17th in 1:41.24.

It was another double-win weekend for Paerson, who had to come from behind to win Saturday's GS. She made it easier on Sunday, winning both runs of slalom for her seventh win of the season. She continues to lead the overall standings 998-893 over Austria's Renate Goetschl, as well as GS and slalom standings. She can actually clinch the slalom title in the next race in Germany in two weeks.

It was a frustrating day for the Americans. Koznick skied to 11th in the first run, dropping six places in the second. Resi Stiegler (Jackson, WY) and Sarah Schleper (Vail, CO) both had problems on their first runs and were six seconds back. Julia Mancuso (Squaw Valley, CA) and Lindsey Kildow (Vail, CO) both skied out in their first run.

The women now head to Haus, Austria for a pair of downhills and a super G beginning Friday.
