Miller, Rahlves Go 1-2
Beaver Creek, CO — December 3, 2004

World Cup leader Bode Miller (Franconia, NH) and Daron Rahlves (Sugar Bowl, CA) made U.S. skiing history Friday as they tore down a sun-splashed Birds of Prey downhill run to finish 1-2 - the first time two American men have completed that feat. Bryon Friedman (Park City, UT) added to the unprecedented result, finishing seventh.

"I was flying," Miller said after screaming down the steep course in an unofficial 1:39.76 with Rahlves timed in 1:39.92. Third place went to Austrian Michael Walchhofer (1:40.15) while Friedman devoured the bottom of the run for his best World Cup showing in time of 1:40.75.

"It's about time," Rahlves said as he instructed a couple of photographers to get a photo of him with his mother, Sally, and wife, Michelle. "It's what we wanted - both of us on the (top-three) podium."

Friedman, who came in looking for a top-10, skied fifth and led for 12 racers. Miller and he were 1-2 for a couple of skiers and when Rahlves reached the finish, Miller and Friedman stormed into the area. All three hugged, waving a big American flag for the wildly cheering crowd.

The win marks Miller’s fourth victory out five races of this young World Cup season.
