One would think that as an athlete most sports would come easily. To be honest, I don't think I am a super natural; I just have a lot of perseverance and will. Because I want to be a better surfer, I spent four long days in the frigid San Francisco water, flailing. I know what it feels like to ride a wave, and I just couldn't do it. I could not find the sweet spot. I know this feeling all to well, it happens to me in all my sports, and yes, even skiing.

I'll head out on an epic powder day, ready to charge. On my first run, I find myself unconnected to my feet, practically unable to make a turn. Sure it may not look too bad to the rest of the world, but inside I'm tortured. I know I can rip, and somehow I can't. We all know this feeling— sometimes it is exhaustion, sometimes just an off day, but it all boils down to one thing, the 'sweet spot.' Whether it is on skis, surfboard, mountain bike, kayak or within the body, as in yoga or running, when we find that perfect place there is a magic where everything becomes easier. The equipment works with you and not against you...
