Women's Giant Slalom

World downhill champion Michaela Dorfmeister of Austria had the fastest second run Saturday en route to winning a World Cup giant slalom by more than a second while Kristina Koznick (Burnsville, MN) was 14th to lead three U.S. skiers into World Cup points.

Dorfmeister had a two-run time of 2:24.32 with Norway's Stina Hofgard Nilsen 2nd in 2:25.33. Canadian Genevieve Simard, starting 46th, was the surprise 3rd-place finisher with a time of 2:25.43.

Koznick had the seventh-fastest second run and was timed in 2:26.46 with Sarah Schleper (Vail, CO) 16th and Kirsten Clark (Raymond, ME) 27th.

The women race slalom Sunday before heading to Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, for the final races before the Olympic Team is announced Jan. 28. — Courtesy US Ski Team
