Stephen Eberharter Takes Downhill

Men's Downhill

World Cup leader Austrian Stephan Eberharter fattened his points lead Saturday after winning his third race of the season. Eberharter took the downhill with teammate Michael Walchhofer 2nd, .22 back. Daron Rahlves (Sugar Bowl, CA) was the only U.S. racer to score points after finishing 19th.

Eberharter, taking over the results leadership role occupied for four years by the injured Hermann Maier, finished in 2:01.24, follwed by Walchhofer in 2:01.46, .04 ahead of Norway's Kjetil Andre Aamodt. Eberharter has 490 points to American Bode Miller's (Franconia, NH) 325. Miller skis Sunday in a giant slalom in Alta Badia, Italy.

Rahlves was timed in 2:02.34 with Chad Fleischer (Vail, CO) 33rd, Scott Macartney (Redmond, WA) 36th, Marco Sullivan (Tahoe City, CA) 42nd, Jake Fiala (Frisco, CO) 45th, and Brett Fischer (Winter Park, CO) 51st in the field of 61.
